Ai4 FireSense: What You Need to Know About Our Early Wildfire Detection Technology
WHY SHOULD I VOLUNTEER TO HAVE A SENSOR INSTALLED ON MY PROPERTY?
Wildfire affects us all and to make a difference, it will truly take a community. By volunteering, you can be a part of a solution that will provide increased safety to you and to your community. You also get to join others in your community, and around the world, to be a part of a totally new approach to early wildfire detection.
Our vision is to eventually expand the pilot into a fully a comprehensive network of sensors, to detect every fire as early as possible, both to help the agencies in their response, and to track changing fire conditions to make sure every affected person can be alerted in time.
WHAT EXACTLY WILL BE INSTALLED ON MY PROPERTY?
We will install a sensor that is roughly the size of a can of soda. The sensor will monitor the air to detect air particulates that are associated with wildfires.
WHEN WILL THE WILDFIRE DETECTION SENSOR BE INSTALLED ON MY PROPERTY?
We are currently in the initial planning phase of this deployment. We hope to begin installation by Q1 2021.
WHO WILL INSTALL THE SENSOR?
We will take care of the installation. All you have to do is register to volunteer. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can install the sensor yourself. The installation will take just a few minutes.
WHERE ON MY PROPERTY WILL YOU INSTALL THE SENSOR? WILL IT NEED TO BE ATTACHED TO MY HOUSE?
The sensor is designed to detect a wildfire from particles and gasses in the air. The location can be anywhere on your property. The sensor does not need to be powered by an electric outlet. It is recommended that the sensor is installed in a location where the sensor is exposed to the greatest free airflow as possible to ensure the fastest detection possible. Additionally, the solar panel side of the device should point to the south in a location with as much direct sunshine throughout the day as possible.
HOW IS THE SENSOR POWERED?
The sensor is powered by an integrated solar panel and battery. No external power is required.
IS THE SENSOR ALWAYS POWERED ON?
Yes, the sensor will always be powered on, monitoring the air for wildfire ignition. The only time the sensor may be offline or powered off is if there is a malfunction, or if it is being updated remotely by Ai4 technicians.
WILL THE SENSOR COLLECT INFORMATION ABOUT ME?
No. The sensor will only be collecting data about the surrounding air.
HOW WILL THE SENSOR DATA BE USED?
The sensor on your property will be a part of a family of sensors in the local area. Each sensor will work individually, and together with the surrounding sensors, to collect air particulate data as inputs into the Ai4 wildfire detection system. This data helps the Ai4 wildfire detection technology become more accurate in detecting wildfires as soon as possible after the initial ignition. The more sensors there are, the faster and more reliable detection is bringing additional safety for the whole community.
WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE SENSOR DATA?
The processing of sensor data is automated. From time to time, Ai4 technicians and engineers may look at individual sensor data to troubleshoot problems and to improve our products and technology.
IS THERE A CAMERA ON THE SENSOR THAT WILL BE INSTALLED ON MY PROPERTY?
No. The device installed on your property only has air sensors that continually monitor the air.
WILL AI4 REPRESENTATIVES NEED TO VISIT MY PROPERTY FREQUENTLY AFTER THE SENSOR IS INSTALLED?
We do not anticipate the need for return visits after the sensor is installed. Of course, if we detect an issue with your sensor that requires a visit to diagnose, we will let you know ahead of time and schedule a service visit with you.
